CB goes Captcha!
Community Builder - Announcements
Written by Nick A.
Wednesday, 14 February 2007

As an added security measure (and a nice Valentime's Day gift to the CB worldwide community), the CB Team has just released the CB Captcha plugin. This plugin provides a security image along with corresponding input field and verification logic. The plugin can be incorporated in the registration process, the forgotten password process and the email user process in order to verify that a human is actually triggering the activities. Many backend parameters and fonts have been built into this plugin.

The plugin was developed by Nick and Beat and is currently in action on this site. Special thanks to the CB testers that helped out. The plugin is available for download from the CB Team Releases category of the download area (upper menu button) of this site. Hopefully, this plugin will make CB driven websites as spam-proof as possible.

CB Paid Subscriptions Plugin in operation on Joomlapolis
Community Builder - Announcements
Written by Nick A.
Tuesday, 16 January 2007
Those who have been following Beat's blog on this site are aware about the subscriptions plugin he has been working on during the past months. A preliminary development version of this plugin is now operational on this site.
Joomlapolitans will notice an extra tab in their profile entitled 'Subscription'. The plugin has been configured to support a series of workflows related with two subscriptions:

  • the Free Joomlapolis Membership subscription, which is the regular free lifetime subscriptions option to this site. By default all registered and approved members are automatically added to this subscription type, as before.

  • the Community Builder Documentation subscription, which is a yearly subscription that is meant to support the CB Team (expenses, tools, libraries, etc). The subscription costs 25 euros per year and the entire paypal workflow is handled automatically by the new subscriptions plugin. The plugin, when payment is confirmed by PayPal, will automatically modify the CB read-only "Member Status" field for the subscribed user and will also add the user to a specific docman group that is authorized for access and downloading of the detailed CB reference guide from "Downloads". So the entire process - end to end - is handled entirely automatically by the plugin. So for credit-card and paypal payment it gives now instant access to the documentation.

Before this plugin the CB team had to manually handle the entire process. This plugin has already quite more features in it and I know Beat has alot of other features to add to this plugin but its looking very good!

You can read more about our documentation subscription and documentation here in it's description.

All processes (registration, upgrade and renew existing 2006 subscriptions) have been already successfully used since we installed it, so you are welcome to try it out, and in the same time help us in our work on Community Builder, while discovering the wealth of features in the latest CB versions in the documentation. Thank you very much for your support.

You can read more about the plugin'd current features and development progress in Beat's latest blog

Community Builder 1.0.2 Released
Community Builder - Announcements
Written by Nick A.
Thursday, 23 November 2006

Note (added Dec. 02. 2006)
CB 1.0.2 is not compatible with Joomla 1.0.10. So, if you want to install or upgrade to CB 1.0.2, you need to upgrade to Joomla 1.0.11.

The CB Core Team has just released version 1.0.2 of the Joomla Community Builder Suite.
This security, performance and stability release can be found in the download area of Joomlapolis (here) and the project area on the forge (here).
All CB installations should be upgraded to this release as soon as possible as a number of low, medium and potentially high security issues have been addressed, as well as a number of anti-spamming hardenings have been made. Although there are no known exploits at release time for the security issues that have been found and fixed by CB core team, we strongly advise for an upgrade.
New features have been kept to a minimum to maximize stability and security.
These include:

  • Compatibility with Joomla 1.5 beta 1 (for evaluation and test purposes only)
  • CB Login support for Missus, PMS Enhanced and JIM.
  • Core plugin support for PMS Enhanced and JIM.
  • New tools option in CB backend to perform database checks on integrity of the CB database.
  • Plugin API improvements.
  • Many minor bug fixes.
  • Expert installation package to preserve existing plugins (study readme very carefully!)
  • For a complete list please see the artifacts list on the forge.

Due to the extensive improvements and optimizations, this release is expected to run much faster and to use less memory than previous releases. For example, the connections path tab can now be safely published and used on large sites.

The CB Core Team would like to thank the CB Testers that have been pounding away at the test builds in order to
make this release (as all previous ones) as solid as possible.
