I have read through the feature list for CB, but did not see a way for members to receive by email a note about new news items posted to the Web site. Instead of checking the site for news everyday, users could just wait until they received a notice of a new news item. Alternatively, users could receive the entire news article or just the title, or just the title and the lead with the link to the entire article.

Does CB or Joomla have such a feature?

But isn´t that what rss is for? If you set up an RSS feed it will give your users (at least those with a rss reader ) that information.

Thanks for the quick response. However, I am dealing with a neighborhood association whose executive director does not yet know how to deal with email messages, let alone an rss reader. The neighborhood is mixed with some sophisticated professionals, along with people whose only computer is found at the local library.

The feature I am referring to is available with Geeklog, but I like Joomla better.

CB does not have this functionality.

The thing you can try is to make a script that directly accesses the DB and mails new posts to users. Then select the users based on the values in the #_comprofiler table.

If you can do this, then someone here will most likely be able to package this as a plugin.

Thanks, Mikko. It won't be hard to write the query, so that is what I'll do.

When you get this working, can you share it with us?
