Pretty sure I've done everything I should in config and plugins.
Seems a lot of CB users have this problem. I tried the suggestion of looking through this thread for the answer but got more confused. I'm nervous for the reason that I upgraded 3 sites to Joomla 1.13 of which 2 work and the other I cannot access. One of the components (SOB2) on 1 site that does work repeatedly asks for log-ins. I have very few code skills and do not want take risks with things that don't work and require code change. Too much at stake. I guess we can live without Captch but it seems a pity to bypass such a good idea and all the effort that has been put into it.
I appreciate that the problem may be caused by Joomla upgrade.
Us non-coders need direction OR to be told 'Dont use the plugin for now. Wait till more is understood.'
Thanks

@Nant
Having read this complete thread. ... (It took a while ) ... congratulations on patiently answering each question about 5 times. Almost saintly
@rlee
In case it helps ...
Re your SOBI site and being logged out after upgrading to Joomla 1.0.13
It might not be related, but there *is* a problem with J! 1.0.13 sessions that causes users to be logged out.
I'm unclear whether this is only backend admins or front end users too.
There is a fix in the forum on joomla.org (link?) but you need to be careful if you apply it because it includes a couple of files that may already have been changed by other extensions you have like AEC and possibly JACL?... but I guess if you are using this complicated a setup ... you need to learn and understand all these dependencies

Also, are there any good how tos on installing GD w/ FreeType?

djsdjs wrote: I use CentOS and yum shows GD 2.0 installed:
gd.i386 2.0.28-4 installed
But CB says it is not detected.
How do I resolve this?
Do I need to resolve it, or will CB still be able to use it even if the configuration screen does not show it as detected?
D.
Months later I figure out the problem while doing captcha for another application. Having GD libraries installed does not necessarily mean the php support is installed.
In the case of CentOS I ran "yum install php-gd" and then restarted apache and CB picked it up right away. Seeing that CB was not detecting GD was my primary hold up in even attempting to install CAPTCHA.
