Please forgive my ignorance, but the term 'soon' has many meanings in the open source world. I have seen soon mean everything from tomorrow to never. Is there a feel for a release date? I am looking for clean support for Joomla 1.5 'Native' and would love to use this product, but I am adverse to using anything other than release code on a production system.
As a side note: I don't mind paying for release software, I do mind paying for the right to help you test beta. Just seems a little backwards. IMHO

Dear Praeter.
So why not looking for a commercial product? OS seems not to fit your needs.

Please don't get me wrong. I love open source and support it where I can whether through forum participation or monetarily when sufficient resources are available. Open source fits my needs fine in many cases and this product has many features that will be valuable in respect to my needs and regarding some of its integration with other applications I am planning to use. I just don't agree with paying for the right to help test. It's tough getting monetary support in this environment so I don't fault the project owners for trying different methods to increase funding. I don't have to agree with the methods tough.
I regards to the release date, it all about business planning. If a realistic release is in 6 months, I will need to look at alternate solutions. If next week, I'll wait to test the new release. Again, I'm not looking to cause grief, I'm just not familiar with the development cycle in this project and don't know how to interpret 'soon'.
And... I apologize if my first post sounded harsh. It was not my intention.

I also encourage working closely with RocketTheme. You guys spend time working CB functionality add more, make it a rival to FaceBook!
Let RocketTheme do their magic. Show them the ins-and-outs.
I would gladly pay a subscription fee to you/both for integrating CB functionality to their themes and extensions.

This is crazy !
We are talking about an öpen source"project for which we can NOT have access to the code and a FREE project for which we have to PAY to download it ????
@downxup: CB IS a commercial product as we have to "pay" to get access to the RC3 version ! And once the CB 1.2 will be out... it will not be compatible with Joomla 1.6 and we will have to pay to get access to CB 1.3...
@jeffhoneyager: Pay, pay, pay... RIDICULOUS ! If you want an equivalent of Facebook, FREE and OPEN SOURCE go to Joomunity (www.joomunity.org)

I subscribed to documentation subscription to support this project... like thousands other joomlapolitans
but there are little things which did not change in the last 2 years...
1. the promised flexible profile customization is terrible... there is no way to prepare a fine profilelayout
2. there is no "useable" profilesearch feature - the search feature is horrible for users who are not experts in CB
3. release cycles.... I don´t want to comment this....
There are newer products on developement like jomsocial.com and joomsuite.com ...
I hope competition will cause change in CB developent cycle...
... I will pay for my custom socialnetwork plattform, because great communities can´t be handled with joomla
