duto,
Thanks for your support. I'm not going to comment on your opinions and decisions, which are yours
I will just rectify a few things you missed obvisouly and quite normally as we didn't cry them out yet:
- There are lots of things which changed in last 2 years. Thing is that they are not visible yet above the hood, as the changes happened under the hood, in CB's engine (the CB framework), while we developped quite some plugins to test it.
- The paid doc subscriptions (thanks to all those who are supporting us ) allow us now to work more than full time on this project, and to implement the improvements on the numerous feedbacks received during the RC faster than before.
- There are really lots of new things which are being prepared thanks to all those contributions, and which will be released after CB 1.2 Stable.
- 90 New profile positions allow to have any setting you want, and each has all needed CSS identifiers to style it to your wish. CB 1.2 Stable will have a new feature allowing you to place almost anything almost anywhere. CB 1.3 will have even more easy flexibility.
- Developing a community platform like CB is lots lots of work and costs, which is much underestimated, even by us. While we are not always here in the forum, we are actively improving and fixing bugs to reach asap a very stable stable release, free like freedom, and as beer, but also with a really powerful API for very interesting plugins to come.
Thanks for your feedbacks, respectfully of your opinions, while not agreeing with all of them.... Well, agreed that search can, and will, be improved for Stable, although an 8-years old kid could already understand it during usability tests done). thank you for response beat.
as you know I´m one of the earliest members of joomlapolis - I like your work and also know which work has been done for this extension...
I know CB from the earliest stages of mambojoe... also I´m well informed about all the benefits of CB for communitypages
but I think this little points should be improved for an valuable extension like this...
my last point was not against CB - I think joomla as CMS has great performanceproblems when used for a communitypage with many installed extensions and thousands of visitors a day...

No worries, fully understand your opinions, while not sharing all of them
We have been working hard to get the engine right first before putting the decorations
CB 1.2 is really an unusually big release...if you look at releases before that and will look at releases after that, you will notice
Btw, we have started cloning ourselves to add more speed to the work (thanks to the doc supporters). But more on that in a front-page article when we have the results to show
There are imho a whole set of huge differences between CB and other components, and those differences are today the result of the last 5 years of work on CB: I don't have the time to go into details right now (we are working hard on CB 1.2 Stable and a set of accompanying, not all yet announced !!, plugins):
All I can say is that CB 1.2 is a very solid framework, and with already over 140 CB plugins today, most running still fine in CB 1.2, allows it to be a solid open social applications integration platform, and constantly joomla's most popular extension over last 3 years.
We are aware of other efforts, also open-source, or proprietary, but really don't see them as competition, knowing with what will be coming in next weeks, months and next year out of here.
You can compare CB 1.2 to the foundations of a new building, which will pop-out of the ground with CB 1.2 plugins, and then CB 1.3, and then finally unveil its potential with CB 2.0, which will not be a rewrite, but finishing the refactoring already done to 60% in CB 1.2.
Again, thanks to all joomlapolitans for their support and feedbacks that make all of this dream coming through as fast as possible Beat - Developer on Community Builder core Team - If you like CB and this forum, you will love Nick's CB 1.2 RC4 reference manual ! : Click here to Get it now - Would like to help us move faster ? I respect the hard work and the coder-effort done her. But if you dont listen to the users here about the design issues, you are making a misstake. For visitors and users, the interface is top priority. What is under the hood is something that we are very happy about when things work, but its not what we usually even understand and therefor can´t see as great value (sorry for that all programmers out there).
Its like having the best and most advanced engine in a really old car. You may not be able to understand this fully because your interests are heavily focused on the programming part, but please invite some design-gurus and listen to what they have to say.
You have been failing on this point in all the years and if you continue to run the race without proper front-end-design, someone else will take over the show.
If you think the competition out there is not so big, think again. I will definetly go for the other community-programs if they can come out with a stable version that works fine, because they have integrated the most basic features that even CB does not have (yet?)...
Keep up the good work, and invite some design-people! Thanks, Asgeir

Hi all, I'd just like to give my thoughts on the CB situation.
I understand that the developers of CB need to earn money and also need to earn money to pay costs for developing and maintaining the project, however some doubts have started to cross my mind about what's going on....
here are some ideas I have....if the new CB is released anytime soon then I stand corrected and apologise.
1. its been well over a month since any notification about progress of CB 1.2 has been delivered on the front-page and when these notifications were made they put across the message that 1.2 was very close to release and there was very little left to do.
2. Since these updates new alternatives to CB have starting popping up, joomunity and jomsocial are the main ones. Maybe CB devs have seen features/qualities in these products that CB does not have and feel they need to be included or bettered in order for CB to still be the leading community base for Joomla!
3. The longer the delay in CB 1.2 being released the more money will be donated using the subscription service as more and more people will be eager to see what is in the new update around the corner. This means the desire to release the 1.2 update to the public so soon must have decreased for the developers as when it is released the amount of new subscriptions will not be as great.
4. i have seen posts from members of the CB dev team fairly recently saying that there's still quite a bit of work to do before release. The article on the front page written in September points towards a final release in early October.
I must also point out my position here. CB is a great component and I believe its greatest strength is that it is a free service and that it really is a quality product and i know that if your getting a free service you shouldnt complain. I am extremely greatful for all work that has been done on CB as it has made my website what it is today! I also understand that 1.2 will be a big update and that a large majority of CB has been re-written. All that I ask is that you let us know what is going on. Im dying with anticipation of what could be a ground breaking product!
Anyway, thanks for listening..........and keep up the good work!
