Well im a subscriber as well but i will not renew cause i dont see why i should.
Things take so long its impossible to have your own agenda ,so you cant plan....all we ever do is wait.
Some goes for the subscription plugin..
promisses etc...its an endless story.
They work so slow (as it looks to me) that others will gain from this and could win at the end and leave CB behind.
But indeed...it would or could make a difference if their communication would have been better.

I definitely don't want to be painful here either. I'm very new to Joomla and CB. And so far what I've seen of CB 1.2 is really cool.
I have decided to use my website to promote a new business, and was recommended by some associates that Joomla was the way to go, and for what I wanted to do, CB was a great community/networking tool. And I agree for the most part.
However, one thing I've found, and I seem to be part of a growing number, is that the inability to control what users see based on a group is sadly and woefully lacking. A key thing in communities is to group people into common or like areas of interest.
And I need to be able to do two things, change a subscription fee based on a service level, and provide a certain level of access based on that subscription.
From what I've read here, this appears to be the purview of Paid Subscriptions. And from what I've read, it sounds really cool. But as the authors below have mentioned, we keep hearing it's close to being done, but then in forums implied it might be a while yet.
I'm on a tight time frame, as I am also trying to pick up where another organization is about to stop providing a service. So if I am to be able to take on some of that effort, I need this to work, and I need time to get it setup.
None of this is your responsibility, but I agree that communication is the key here. If Paid Subscriptions is going to be a while yet,.. as in months not days or weeks, then I have to move on to look at something else. Not because I think you guys to a bad job, quite the contrary, but because I have to get my business going.
I like what you guys are doing,.. I really do. But at the end of the day I have to be able to deliver what I say I will, and that comes with external expectations, so I'm just asking,.. can you give an idea of a release date that I can plan around?

lol...no you can forget about that.
The guys from CB are greek.
That doesnt matter, every year i go to greece for my holiday..
But fact is,they do things slower...
I was also working on a friends site and said the subscription plugin would be great for him.
I said that as i got the impression it wouldnt take that long before its first RC.
But it took longer and longer...at the end my friend got disapointed in me cause nobody could continue the work on his site as it was a important thing....the subscription.
I finaly suggested him to use AEC component...
He's happy with it .

We're following closely this thread and also comments in other threads as well.

We understand your concerns and are addressing them with actions (doing vs talking) as fast as we can. We are actually moving faster than any other time before, on more fronts than ever. It's really exciting time in the joomlapolis backstage.

We will be providing news on several fronts in the next days.

Our team has been cooperating intensively with the groupJive team in the last weeks, and GroupJive announced a RC 1 of the new groupJive within next days

Also the paid subscriptions plugin reached a major milestone, as we are now using the latest version on this site as well, which allows us to fix the last glitches.

Major improvements have been made to the CB API and to templatability.

All of this has taken long time of intensive work, and we have been definitely lacking of time to communicate. But that should now change soon.

Thanks for your feedbacks, critics, encouragements, help, subscriptions, and involvment in this community, it has helped this project tremendously , and effects will become visible quite soon now.

EDIT: John, btw I'm not Greek

I'm anxiously awaiting the stable version of CB 1.2. I administer the California Peace and Freedom Party's website utilizing Joomla 1.5 and a modified RocketTheme template. We are planning to organize on a national level and I am looking at Community Builder as the tool for building and organizing our membership. I'm not sure if CB has ever been used in this fashion but if anyone would like to send me their suggestions for this project, please feel free to do so.
