I got a note today that JomSocial is now officially available in Pro and Standard versions and I see that Joomunity is getting stronger.
Considering that Joomla 1.5.x has been long without (other than the legacy version, which did not work for me) a stable social / community platform, it would be most helpful for somebody with good vision and knowledge to give the community a perspective as to whether CB is going to make it long term with commercial competition. If so, why, besides its freeness, should one consider CB first for a social / community network. IS CB ever going to be a social site facilitator like facebook etc? or is just to be it to be the field extender and email authenticator that should be in the core Joomla 1.5.x product?
It would be nice for somebody without a horse in the race and a lot of knl to help us all.
Additionally, just as CB has adopted Fireboard as its forum, it would help to have somebody give us a perspective on which blog, forum, comments, and wiki software should one choose to go along with the social network! Tarbania

CB is, and will most probably stay, the leading social platform for Joomla! in the foreseable future.
We are really impressed with CB's huge installed base, the over 150 readily available specific extensions, and strong community support.
CB 1.2 RC releases are native for Joomla 1.5.x, Joomla 1.0.x and Mambo 4.5.x-4.6.x, giving a great freedom of choice to users, and showing the solidness of its framework.
CB 1.2's framework has been developed for 3 years now, and is really getting a very solid social platform. Building such a framework takes years, and it's development continues full speed.
Also it's documentation subscription model makes it sustainable in the long run while staying free, and allows me to work full time on it, while outsourcing some parts of the work too.
While others consider the free CB as a "competition", we really don't consider others as competition, but as source of cooperation and, if needed, of inspiration .
Stay tuned on the front-page for some announcements in next hours on things we have been working in last months, which will probably answer your questions Beat - Developer on Community Builder core Team - If you like CB and this forum, you will love Nick's CB 1.2 RC4 reference manual ! : Click here to Get it now - Would like to help us move faster ? Get it, and/or help us spend more time coding by helping others in this forum, many thanks

well i read someone saying about the cb design in general... and do register here and have a look..http://www.joomlaplazza.com they realy changed a few things...
i also downloaded joomunity. tried it locally and honest is honest...,if they work realy hard fixing the bugs i saw it could....and i mean..it could beat cb.
what i do wonder is this....if the cb comminity is so strong that it will survive any competition why isnt there a designer that offered to boost up the looks of cb.
and wouldnt it be a good idea to hit the breaks after the cb stable release and hurry up the plugin dev ?
just a few thoughts.. My soon to be released website. www.joomla-reviews.com

I didn't know there was a race
I tried joomunity and still found myself going back to CB because of less clutter and less bugs. Regardless of what the developer states, joomunity is in alpha stage. My personal preference and opinion.
I played with jomsocial, but I am unwilling to shell out $100 for it. My need does not justify the expense.
I thank Beat and Nick and the rest of the team for the work they have done here. Even though I lurk mostly on this site and did not buy a subscription, know that your work is greatly appreciated.
If there is a race, I think CB and CBE are more in the same class as they were forked from the same code. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
I'm hoping there will be a nice xmas present here under my joomla tree when I come back to this site.
