Joomla 1.5.14, CB 1.2.1
email settings working with mass mail, acajoom etc, cb emails fail.
settings:smtp
ssl
smtp.gmail.com
465
smtp is the only options for us. cb just doesnt work with gmail hosted email at this point.

It should be pop.gmail.com, and then make sure you've enabled pop email in gmail.

pop.gmail.com? Im not sure you are following me. These are my server settings for the website, im not trying to receive, but send from community builder through smtp. like I said, the settings i have work for joomla, mass mail, contact forms, acajoom, but the registration emails and reminders in cb do not work with these settings. I dont have access to another mail function, it must be smtp through google hosted email. Does CB not use joomla settings for email? Maybe not handling smtp? Is there somewhere I can check? thanks for any help

Have you tried PHPMailer to see if it'll function? Tried SMTP with and without authentication? Is your CB registration email address different then Joomlas global from address (if not, make it so)?

phpmailer is not an option, like I said smtp through google hosted email is what needs to be used (and currently works fine with joomla, contact forms and acajoom). google hosted email requires auth. in order to work with website, so without auth. email doesnt work. global email address used is different from cb registration email used. does cb use joomla settings or not? what files can i modify if it does not? I know in joomla 1.x days, I had to modify some smtp class file to get ssl to work, but with joomla 1.5.14, the settings are in the backend. does cb not recognize this?

CB uses Joomla settings, but you can try modifying CBs SMTP file to fit your needs. This file can be located at:

administrator/components/com_comprofiler/library/phpmailer/phpmailer.smtp.php
