Working on an open source project take a whole lot fo time away from family. Dates slip. Give these folks a break. I am sure we will see the release in a week or two.

Whats the new date to the release ? Could we see a list o Bug Fixes ?

Tks,
Delays delays....
Written by ShaunZer on 2006-04-23 12:10:48
Its one week past easter weekend already, roughly more than a one week delay from the announced date.

It would be better if the team were to set & annouce a more realistic dateline than just stating a date for the stake of it.

I bet I am not the only one fad up of waiting for an easter day present, let be during the weekend after easter, even to now.
my view

Donations are a way to show our gratitude.
CB has already shown to be a serious open source project on its own, seeing the potential and the way its spreading.

Thx!
I do appreciate ...

... your replies. The purpose of my comment was to draw the core developers attention to the fact that it is usually not a good idea to announce a product, then delay it, then announce it, then delay it, then annunce it, then delay it ... etc. since after a while nobody will take the announcements seriously and you will, in effect, have lost credibility. It is much better to set a realistic deadline, assuming worst case scenarios, and the stick to it. I am however, confident that my message has come across given the number and quality of replies my comment has received, and believe me, you guys are not the only ones that have to worry about day-jobs and family ! So in order not to take up more of your time ... do not reply to this message ... and keep up the good work !!
Wow - missed this thread ..

Just noticed the discussion going on here.

My 2 cents worth ...

1. Incoming donations are very few.
2. No, we are not waiting for Mambo.
3. No, we are not waiting for donations.
4. Yes, we do have families and dayjobs.

Yes, when it comes to release dates our credibility is questionable.

So, why the delay? Mainly because of #4.

But it looks like the release is very close.

Yeah, I don't believe the delay has anything to do with donations at all. I think they're trying to achieve compatibility with Mambo, but until one of the core members confirms it, that's just speculation.
Wow. Just wow.

I can't believe the insinuation by composer14 that they are holding back this release because of a lack of donations. That's patently absurd.

Regardless, they deserve donations to ensure continued development. RC2 was pretty damn stable, and although there's been a feature freeze, a number of developers have put together some pretty powerful plugins in the meanwhile; ready for release with Stable.

These guys have the #1-rated component for extending the functionality of Joomla and you are critizing them because you feel they are money-hungry?

They probably don't even make enough money to cover their costs. Do you expect them to pay out of their own pockets, despite giving up thousands of man-hours to complete a project?

That's shameful. Just made a donation. I recommend others do, too.

Come on be fair

How can anyone loose credibility by not releasing a product with potential bugs in it? I personally would find it 10x worse if something i eagerly wanted got released, i used to find it did not work... How much of my time would that have wasted.
They surely have the right to fix the problems pre-release. Why do they need to release bugs, etc on software that has not been released to the public? They don't... Would any software house release bug problems on software they have not sold to the public? No. Thats like Mercedes admitting their car had trouble before they finished prototyping it... It is just crazy...

Personally on the donations front i am more likely to give a donation if i am earning from a site using this software. Whether it be a paid client, or advertising. I can then give a more substantial donation that $1 / $2.
But we cannot say they are begging for money. Sdhiphop is just another one of us saying he feels we should support the developers...

Just because you are frustrated by the delay does not mean you should take it out on the developers... But yes we are all eagerly awaiting the release!
$1 Today It's well Worth It!

I for one, and I'm sure there are others who would rather wait for a Stable release of the only Community Project for Joomla/Mambo to date. There's nothing worse than installing a component and finding out, the dev team missed something, then you have to wait again! Plus I heard there's extra goodies in the form of plugins coming from different developers which will make a huge difference in tomorrows CB version compared to todays CB version.

Much respect must be given to the Joomlapolis Dev Team and testers working VERY hard identifying the 140+ bugs and fixing them to get this "FREE" product Stable. This team has every right to charge us but they don't. Everybody must think, do these guys have day jobs? How do they support themselves not to mention thier families, if they are doing this for FREE? So of course if you've been using CB and you like it and you use it or rely on it to make your website great, then it's only right to give a donation. What good is a COMMUNITY when nobody supports it?

Think of it this way, there are 12,000+ users registered to this site, there's a really good amount of those 12,000 who are using CB and will continue using it. So let's say each of us 12,000 users donate $1 Today and tomorrow Joomlapolis will have $12,000 in thier pockets, or better yet, donate just $2 and they will have $24,000 hey i think thats a damn good exchange for ALL the time and effort used to CODE and DESIGN this great Component.

Peace
Your credibility at stake -- Should we c

As much has I hate to say this: our dear core developers are rapidly losing credibility by not delivering a stable "product" of which I havent even seen a list of bugfixes, security related issues an other changes that would deserve the "stable" label or an advance donation. The delay is obviously quite closely related to the flow (or rather the lack thereof) of donations. however, in making the release conditional on donations, our dear developers are actually behaving exactly like the Mambo crew that has preferred to take a commercial approach to development, rather than the Joomla community, which is supposedly still free of commercial interests. I therefore propose to the Administrator and the core developers to rename their site to either "Donation-required-opolis" or "Mambo-paymenow-opolis", but certainly not Joomlapolis !!
