Annual Black Rock and Oregon Deptartment of Forestry Meeting
Written by Richb
Monday, 16 June 2008

Sorry about the late notice to those interested but our annual ODF / Black Rock meeting is today Tuesday the 17th at 6:30 PM located at the ODF offices located at 2600 State Street

We have an important agenda to cover related to the Black Rock Trails please join us for this meeting if you would like more information:

Statement and agenda from ODF:

Every year since the formal “Adopt-A-Trail” Agreement was implemented for the management of the Black Rock Mountain Bike Area, there has been an annual meeting between BRMBA (formerly Black Rock Freeride Association) and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). This year’s meeting scheduled for June 17th will be slightly different from those of previous years. ODF will not be bringing forward any proposed revisions to the management plan or the agreement itself. Perhaps of greater interest to the members of BRMBA - the agency will also present it’s case for proposing no new projects for the 2009 fiscal year (July 2008 - June 2009). Due to reduction in revenue to the agency, the projected budget for next year will need to be cut by more than 10% along with some re-allocation of staff resources. Unfortunately, under these circumstances, the focus of recreation management is to maintain existing facilities and not pursue any additional projects or expansion of resources - such as trails and related facilities. During the meeting on the 17th, BRMBA leadership and members will have an opportunity to discuss the impacts of this position on the trails at Black Rock and provide input to ODF staff. Please attend if you are interested in the future management of the Black Rock Mountain Bike Area.

The annual meeting is held at ODF headquarters, 2600 State St. in Salem and will start at 6:30 pm.

A draft agenda for the meeting includes:

- Current trail project status

- Generate list of BRMBA supported projects for 2008

- Discussion of ODF budget for FY2009 and staff support to Black Rock

- Additional topics/request by BRMBA leadership and members
