ufortunately
the two template offered by Joomlapolis do not suit my needs.

-not enough or properly positioned modules
-not enough colors

but of the two, Coolness is the better choice..but I have not gotten any further than the demo as
for some strange reason. I cannot find a module map
for the template

so I gave up after not seeing it listed on features or in the normal places.

better documentation and color options might sway me to use/buy it...but I just cant be tied down to white and gray...

and I dont want to go through the process of changing every single little color in the css to customize it.

yes it loads fast, yes it looks clean...but it also looks very very plain. no eye candy, and no way to instantly change the color like on most templates.

well at least nothing I could find..but I did not look that hard.
(correct me if I am wrong)

nothing that makes the template stand out or appeal to the user.

If my coolness install was right next to yours..the only thing that would separate us is the content and the logo.

luna and dark are unusable for me as they look like webpage graphics from 1997. I needed something a little more modern.

MyCommunity as well as Coolness templates come with full documentation included with their package (after purchase of course) similar to that of CB documentation (great detail).

and I dont want to go through the process of changing every single little color in the css to customize it.

Coolness template features a parameter based control. Which means you can change the template color parameter and it will adjust the color of the template for the entire site. This means you could go from green, blue, red, or any other color you could imagine instantly without touching the CSS.

yes it loads fast, yes it looks clean...but it also looks very very plain. no eye candy, and no way to instantly change the color like on most templates.

Coolness and MyCommunity were designed with speed in mind to avoid JS conflicts or slowdowns like more of the Eye Candy templates face (it's nothing short of truth that a few unspoken developers JS conflicts on nearly 90% of their templates). As for color changing please see previous comment.

If my coolness install was right next to yours..the only thing that would separate us is the content and the logo.

Content is a large defining aspect of what defines sites, but with Coolness you can change color easily, change background easily, logo easily, etc... The same is seen with ANY template; if too many use the same template of course sites will look or feel like clones. There's no avoiding that fact.

luna and dark are unusable for me as they look like webpage graphics from 1997. I needed something a little more modern.

Believe you mis-understood my reply; I was meaning to use them as examples to make your own CB template.

You forgot the mention the modules?
why no module map?

module maps are important to me as it lets me plan where I can add certain modules and most of all where I can add screen acreage for advertisers.

Just a suggestion but it might be a good idea to actually have some variations of what can be done with these templates.

or at least better description of what this template color parameter does.

screens at least.

had I known upfront what can be done and seen a demo, I prolly would have bought one.

I think the templates still need some image work to bring them into 2010. At least the blue one does need some freshening up.

maybe its the basic content you have loaded into it.

and with no module map or color changer..you make me have to actually use my imagination to envision what it could look like. (?tp=1)

I'm not suggesting load it to the max like RT does, but something a little more aesthetic and something that looked flexible would have hooked me to buy.

more work done by your team means less work done by me;)

thanks for the tips

It's nothing new to Joomla to show module maps; it's a feature of Joomla all Joomla sites have which can be seen on any Joomla site. Please see below links for module maps.

templates.joomlapolis.com/demo/mycommuni...template=mycommunity - MyCommuntiy J1.5.x

templates.joomlapolis.com/demo/coolness/...mp;template=coolness - Coolness J1.5.x

I think the templates still need some image work to bring them into 2010. At least the blue one does need some freshening up.

They're designed to NOT be image heavy, all is done with pure CSS and sprites; this increases load times significantly and is why most MyCommunity sites feature load times within the 10 second or less range. You of course are welcome to change the CSS and add images as you see fit. We've another template in works designed purely around Web 2.0, so eye candy is on the way.

I'm not suggesting load it to the max like RT does, but something a little more aesthetic and something that looked flexible would have hooked me to buy.

Many agree the templates are fantastic and a hit, we can't please everyone.

more work done by your team means less work done by me

A website it self is work, you can't go head first into designing a website and expect to do little to none work; minor CSS changes or changing a parameter here and there certainly is not work.

thanks for the links, but I was already there
hence the (?tp=1) in my last post.

Sadly not everyone knows how to do this, take into account that many Joomla users are beginners and need their hands held a bit.

Modules are a big deal, anywhere I can squeeze in that extra banner for some cash or to gen traffic to another project is bonus!

I was in the market for a CB template a few months ago and I looked at the Joomlapolis ones, nothing caught my eye, yeah fast. but that seemed to be the only emphasis.

Other than that they looked like typical templates you see on the free template sites. Basic module positions, no color styles displayed.

Speed is indeed an essential feature to me, but I cant just drop all of the other design elements for speed..I need a nice balance.

I dont use shared hosting or virtual servers..my sites are built on dedicated boxes that can handle the extra load of a few images.

(my users are going to try to load in giant images into their galleries anyways..so what s a few more KB on my end)

plus the internetz are getting faster everyday, heck even my iphone can quickly load sites that 3 years ago my browser hung on.

but I can see the appeal for somebody on a godaddy server , they need all the breathing room they can get.

I prolly would have considered purchasing it had I known you could change the colors easily.
(and your persistence may still persuade me)

But I skipped it as it looked to me like a template you would use for inter-office communication or just document trading.

not something you would expect regular users to come and spend time on creating profiles and "social netting"

I am stuck with my current template for now.
but heck who knows , maybe I'll pull an all nighter and swap it out for Coolness.

(and if I happened to stumble across a discount code floating around on the internet, that might just lubricate my paypal button a little)

I would still like to see this color swapping method demo'd
