Safari doesn't remember login status

Safari doesn't remember login status was created by Geoffrey
I am having an issue when members visit my website while using Safari. Even though they have the "remember me" box checked, after a short period (about half a day sometimes longer sometimes less) they find that they are not logged in even though Joomla says that they are logged in. They are able to log in just fine, but I would rather that they not have this issue.

This issue is not present in Firefox.

Does anyone have any ideas? I think that Safari is prematurely deleting the cookie on it's end, but is there a way for us to compensate for that?

Ok, here is something strange. I have a development install of Joomla 1.5.15 in a subdirectory (different from the live site) that has actually been around longer than my live site. The strange thing is- this CB issue is not present on this site. I have been logged into the site for over a day now and it doesn't "forget" about me. There must be something in my live site that is effecting the "remember me" part of it. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I would hate to do a complete re-install of joomla.

Ok, it seems that the user is remembered; however, the browser does not display this on the home page. For example, when the user (who is logged in but has a message saying "you are not logged in" and cannot see any logged in menu items) clicks on any link in the site, he/she is magically logged in correctly! They are able to return to the home page without being logged back out and use all of the functionality of the site that registered users can use. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the site recognize that they are returning users that wanted to be remembered?

I think I have solved this issue. I went back into my configuration settings for Joomla and found that I had my session time set really high. I decided to set it to 15 minutes and cleared my cache (system and standard). I found that the system would remember the logged in users! I think I had my session setting way too high!
I was misinterpreting the session time as the length of time to keep a user logged into the system as remembered. In fact, it is actually the amount of time to remove a user after inactivity of the site. If the user navigates away from the site, this time in not included in the inactivity time.
Here is an example. A user logs into the site and sits on a page for 20 minutes. Your session time is set to 15 minutes of inactivity. So when the user navigates away from the page to another page within the site, they will be logged out.
I hope this helps any users who have had the same issue as I did.

EDIT

It looks like the system still logs out the user every once in a while. The problems still remains. I think it is an issue with the database, but I am not sure. Can anyone provide any assistance?

Please do, much has changed and would be interested in knowing your results. If resolved fantastic, but if not we will move forward with your issue; thanks.
