What is this Check User DB error and what do I do?

13 years 11 months ago #131196 by erjati
On a brand new install, after adding over 200 members by hand I ran the tools and got only this error:

ERROR: sql query: SELECT u.id FROM #__users u LEFT JOIN #__core_acl_aro a ON a.section_value = 'users' AND a.value = CAST( u.id AS CHAR ) WHERE a.value IS NULL : returned error: Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation '=' SQL=SELECT u.id FROM jos_users u LEFT JOIN jos_core_acl_aro a ON a.section_value = 'users' AND a.value = CAST( u.id AS CHAR ) WHERE a.value IS NULL

Only problem I have with the member directory is that when logged in a user cannot view his own profile in the directory (but can edit it on the front end.) He can only view the profile normally on initial login. If he leaves it and goes back to view it, it just takes him back to the main directory list. I need a solution to that in particular.

I've already removed the two plugins i had to see if they were causing the error but found they arent the problem.

The error means you've mixed database collations. This can be changed by way of editing your database. Best approach is with phpmyadmin followed by viewing the problematic database table and viewing the Operations tab. I recommend contacting your hosting provider for assistance.

? Do you think this would be causing:

a) inability of logged in user to view his own profile?

b) system unable to list member articles on tab in profile for any of the 4 such cb plugins I've tried?

If not, what might it be causing?

I will talk to host about fixing db.

Thanks so much for your reply. It's good to find some help.

Don't know, I recommend upgrade to CB 1.2.2 and seeing if issue is resolved already. If not after installing CB 1.2.2 then you've likely a conflict from another extension.

I'm using a new install of CB 1.2.2. I guess one should do these test after each new component is added.

Yes, all tools should be ran after each install. Please contact your host on changing Collations in your tables to match one another.
