Making the Kunena group forum categories OPEN

14 years 3 months ago #119885 by classixuk
Hi everyone,

Just one more question for today.

I have noticed that the forum categories automatically created in Kunena by Groupjive are private by default.

I need to change this setting to "open to everyone to read and post".

Unfortunately, the website I am developing requires it.

The idea is that Joey sets up a team using GroupJive, and then automatically gets given a forum category called "Joey's Team Forum". I am getting this done now.
But whereas "Joey's Team forum" is currently only viewable by him and his group members, we need it to be automatically viewable to all.

Can someone show me which piece of code I would need to edit in order to acheive this?

Many thanks.
Chris.

I believe you just need to make your Groups forum category published instead of unpublished.

Hi Rapunzl,

Thanks. I did think of that, but we anticipate that there will be hundreds of "mini teams" registering. It will become an arduous task if we have to check each morning and manually change the settings for each new group forum we find.

I was hoping that someone could point me in the correct direction of the php file that contains the code to set up the forum with the setting of "public backend" so that I could change the setting to "everyone".

Can this be done?

Thanks again for your help.

Chris

It's a one-time change. The forum category is the itemid you created and placed in your GroupJive settings. Each group then has its own thread under the Group Category.

Hi rapunzl,
Hope you had a good Christmas.

I had a look at what you suggested, but it's not quite the solution.

In the admin panel of Kunena, have the forum category id 4 set to "everybody" under "public access".
However, the forums being automatically set up by groupjive in that category are set to "public backend" under "public access".

We need that setting to also be "everybody" when the group forum is created, so that everybody visiting the site can read and post in each group's forum.

It's not going to be an option to manually change each one in the backend as and when group forums are created as it won't be us running the site.

I think we need to alter the php command in Groupjive that sets up the forum with a "public backend" setting to "everybody" setting.

Do you know which file this piece of code is in? Does anybody else?

Many thanks,
Chris.

You're right. I hadn't realized that setting changed now.

Keep in mind that changing files (hacking) isn't supported. GroupJive is not yet stable, so any changes you make to core files will not be upgradeable.
