base64 login redirect not working

After reading this entire thread I was hoping I would find a solution to my problem, but after trying the many fixes posted on here, I have not been able to.
This is the scenario:
Step #1: User goes to a general public sub page on the website, and decides they want to log in.
Step #2: User clicks on "Log In" from the header links and then is directed to the CB Login/Registration page.
Step #3: User enters user name and password, and then is taken to the home page.
I am trying to find a fix or understand how I can have the users return to the previous page before the login page.

You can't, not safely. That's 2 URLs back. CB can't store 2 URLs back. A javascript history back is also not safe so that wouldn't be an acceptable solution.I am trying to find a fix or understand how I can have the users return to the previous page before the login page.
