[#1998] Can a user control privacy on a "read-only" field?

13 years 7 months ago #142642 by palmqviststefan
Hi,

I am having a small problem with CB Privacy 1.0RC2. I am synchronizing the user data with another database, and I don't want the user to be able to change his adress, zipcode, or city. I have therefore set these fields to User Read Only.

What I do want is to give the user the option to hide these fields from other users. So I turn on CB Privacy for these three fields, with the settings:

-User can control privacy
-Exclude private users
-Normal CB settings

From the front-end I am can see the 3 CB Privacy fields, and I can use the dropdown meny to change the settings to "Invisible on profile". However, when changes are made they are not stored upon saving.

If I change the settings from the back-end, everything works fine. Also, if I set "User Read Only" to "No" for these 3 fields, I can change and save privacy settings from the front-end.

Is it possible to change the settings so that a user can hide information without being able to change the actual data?

/Stefan

P.S. CB 1.2.3, Joomla 1.5.20, and the issue appears with both IE and Firefox.

Have created a bug ticket to have your issue further addressed. Seams Read Only fields are not properly operating with CB Privacy.

#1998

I suggest setting those fields to hide in profile edit using CB Privacy then use Delimiter fields with CB Privacy usage to attempt to allow visibility of read only fields. Your delimiter fields will need to contain substitutions such as [cb_city], etc...

Hi Krileon,

thanks for looking into this.

I am not sure I understand your workaround. I thought CB Privacy didn't work on delimiter fields.
