[SOLVED] Image upload - Internal Server Error 500

11 years 8 months ago - 11 years 8 months ago #208494 by crony
Hello,

I've setup the image field to 500x500 and 2 Mo. If I upload a bigger image I've got an internal server error 500.
I know it's my mistake to upload a too big image, but shouldn't I receive a more friendly message ? ( like "image has not the correct size")

Thanks !

Your host probably doesn't allow 2mb uploads. You need to ensure maximum post size and such is all adjusted properly. If you allow 2mb, adjust it to say 3mb so the error can catch it and output. Example as follows using php.ini.

upload_max_filesize = 4M
post_max_size = 4M

The limit is actually 48 Mb.
But I've limited to 2 Mb the profile image with 500*500 px.
If I upload a bigger image, I've got an internal error.
So it's normal, but pointing directmy to an error 500 is a bit heavy for users.
A message to explain that their image is too big should be better.

It's not supposed to be a 500 error. It's supposed to inform them it is too large. Try reducing the maximum size and re-upload to see if error persists. If it persists enable debug mode and maximum error reporting in Joomla global configuration then try to upload again to expose the error.
