I am trying to add images both as a super user & as a registered member - the error message says that I am not authorized to do this - please help!!!!

Please provide the full error message it's showing. If the error message is a giant white page then it's probably the servers mod_security rules blocking it and you'd need to contact your host.

Here is the error message - I have 2 super user accounts - both of them are rejected with this message

That's a mod_security issue. So server security is blocking the upload. You'll need to open a hosting ticket for that.
