Use Names instead of Usernames for messaging was created by MarlonFungai
Hi guys I am using the internal pms for my messaging and by default it uses usernames to allow you to find people to send messages to in the send message drop down. How can I change this from usernames to names. My system uses ID numbers (think social security numbers) for user names so it won't work as a user reference from another user.

Names are not unique so it doesn't allow for sending by name. Username is always unique. Your usage makes them unique, but that's self imposed. Ideally you shouldn't use Name at all and set your IDs as the Username.
Sending by name maybe allowed in the future, but I've no idea when as it'd need a search functionality to handle cases of multiple users with same name. Have added a feature ticket for this below.
