Field Order in Registration vs. Field Order in Tab

One simple use case: on registration the first name and surname should be on top followed by address and the username ans Password should be close together underneath - on the profile the username should be first, followed be country or what ever.
But if that is true: "Order will be completely irrelevant in a future CB 2.x release with layouts. You'll be able to order them however you want on a layout by layout basis" ... problem solved. I only hope that does not take another 2 years :)

Thanks for feedback - I understand the use case better now ;-)

Previous question remains - have you seen such a feature implemented in other social networking scripts/sites?

have you seen such a feature implemented in other social networking scripts/sites?

I care about my installation and my installation utilizes CB and SEBLOD and SEBLOD can do exactly that although it is not specifically a "social script".

I also care about CB, just trying to see if your must have feature is available somewhere so I can see how it is implemented ;-)

... just add a new column in the field table(?) and make the columns sortable so it is easily maintainable. SEBLOD has an entirely different approach and I don't think you can use their pattern.

Certainly not another 2 years

Our plan is for CB 2.1 to have layouts and be using the XML engine on frontend. With the layouts you'd, in theory (we're early design discuss), be able to arrange via drag-and-drop your fields however you like. The ordering would store with the layout. So having an additional ordering column would be of no use for this usage and would just require us to remove and migrate it shortly after implementing it. All of this is subject to change of course and will know more once we begin working on CB 2.1.
