How to give free subscription

How to give free subscription was created by aguaw
Every year I give free subscriptions to selected users for services to the website etc. - what I do is browse to their profile and manually assign a plan to their account.
When they come to renew the following year, the renewal always says from the previous year.
For example for the users I gave subscriptions to last year, it says renew your 2013 membership - not this years.
Is there a better way to do this so they are kept in the correct loop?
I was thinking of maybe using coupons? but was just wondering if there is a better way via admin?

What duration is your plans set to? The renewal should take into consideration the free subscription you gave them as it calculates off their subscription row. By Calendar Year durations have some issues we're working to fix for renewals though.

Hey Krileon - yes they are Calendar year subscriptions

Ok, it's probably the calculation done by By Calendar Year that's doing it then. It should renew them for the correct year, but it shows the previous year. Does it renew fine?
