The screenshot I supplied above is what I am working on changing that view to.
I can't help you with Gantry style conflicts as we're not the developers of your template. It looks like over aggressive styling being applied to form-control or custom-select CSS class unless they're specifically targeting select2 elements and restyling them. You can try right clicking and inspecting element on the dropdown and reviewing its CSS to see what could be altering its styling or have your template developer do that.

Ok, the styling of the mini edit view has been redone to display like the screenshot shown in my reply below.

This is the best I can do on short notice as I am in the middle of other tasks. This clarifies further what each inputs purpose is in addition to their hover tooltips. If you want it changed any further you'll need to consider making your own template files for CB Gallery and designing it to something that better fits your needs.
The change is available in the latest build released as of now.
