Subscriptions error Call to undefined function iconv()

We have recently been getting this problem when using Paid Subscriptions/Subscriptions.

In an ideal world members would do their renewals themselves online, but some don't and they have to be done at the back-end by the Membership Secretary. He finds the relevant member in Paid Subscriptions/Subscriptions, clicks on the Username to get to their subscription profile then either Renew or Reactivate before clicking Save and Close. Instead of getting an 'update successful' message he gets a page that says:

An error has occurred

Call to undefined function iconv()

Return to Control Panel

He clicks on Return to Control Panel and is duly taken there. If he then returns to the member's profile the renewal has been done successfully and all looks well. There is, however, no corresponding entry in the history logs. This seems to have been happening since 21st March 2018.

I have just updated to CBSubs 4.2.0 and during my post-update checks deleted a subscription with an 'Invalid' status via Paid Subscriptions/Subscriptions and had the same result - error message but the delete was actioned - again no entry in the history logs.

There don't appear to have been any entries in the history logs since 3 March 2018. I have done all the CB tables checks and all seems OK.

Screenshot of error attached.

iconv PHP extension isn't loaded. If you've access to php.ini for your server then you can uncomment it if it's there otherwise contact your host. It's used to enforce UTF8 encoding for some strings.
