Serious upgrade problem RC2 was created by jciconsult
When I did an upgrade (actually a new installation but with copied tables, the NAME field remains unpublished.
ALl my list definitions seem to be screwed up.

Did you save the CB configuration after checking the setting for NAME type ?

If it's single NAME field it will publish name.
If it's a firstname + lastname it will unpublish NAME.

if you need NAME for userslists, you have 2 solutions:

1) use formatted name if it's of type name.
2) use replacement tag [name] or [firstname] [lastname]

Non of the user-defined (i.e. CB_ fields) are showing up in the lists option. What am I missing?

Are those fields "on profile" with 1 or 2 lines ?

This is to respect the indication to user on registration and user edit if a field is private or visible on profile (and users lists of course...)

Maybe a CB->tools->check CB database can help as well ;)

Everything looks fine and the database checks out. I have combined a bunch of PDFs into one with the relevant documentation. I can't see anything wrong. I have looked at the tables in phpymadmin but nothing is obvious. I have tried publishing and unpublishing fields like company but to no avail. They no longer appear in the field list for the lists. This is mission critical for us.

I downloaded CABE to xampp and found that if you change the plugin-id of a field from 0 to 1 in phpMyAdmin, it will appear in the "field list". But that doesn't explain why the problem arose.
