I would like to determine what content is displayed on a page for different subgroups of registered users. In particular I would like to have a link to a component (possibly displayed in a module or menu) only available to a specific subgroup or subgroups of registered users.

Since Joomla does not permit subgroups for users in the "Registered" group category, can this be done by allocating a custom field in CB and then determining access to a menu, module or component based on this field? Or perhaps there is another way.
