Spanish Language joomla 1.5.7 was created by mtovard
I have tested whole spanish language plugins I have found out for community builder most of them work but not has expected around the vowels accent (á, é, í, ó, ú)

I have joomla 1.5.7, community builder 1.2RC3, phpBB3.0.2, rokbridge environment. My site is set to spanish and my backend to english.

Joomla 1.5.x work with default utf-8 coding.
Joomla 1.0.1x works with default iso-8859-1 coding.

I will post my results:

1.- When in joomla 1.5.7, I have installed a spanish plugin (iso-8859-1) it uploaded well. I have seen the source code and the accent is shown, but how the page is coded in utf-8, the accent aren´t shown.

2.- When in joomla 1.5.7, I have installed a spanish plugin (utf-8) it uploaded well. When I test the frontend, a message [you can are not allowed to see this page appear]
I have expanded the zip, and the spanish.php file has
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Acceso directo a este lugar no está permitido' );

the spanish.xml file appear to be fine
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<cbinstall version="4.5.3" type="plugin" group="language">
<name>spanish</name>

I am sure it is a codification issue because If I set the iso-8859-1 codification in my browser (IE6, Firefox 3.02) it works ok with the iso-8859-1 plugins.

I haven't gotten to have a utf-8 spanish plugin show any other thing than [you have not access to see this page]

Does anybody has some clue or has had this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

I would like to know if language translation are written in database, if so, in which tables (just for checking if there is the problem). I will do my own test too.

I would like to know if I can use an iso8859-1 translation, change the spanish.xml to set utf-8 and save the spanish.php file to utf-8 coding. I have tested that but I have receive many error messages, maybe I need more theory and I have lost an important step.

Thanks for any help,

My joomla mysql database 4.1.22-standard-log works in UTF-8 Unicode (utf8). Tables type:MyISAM collation:utf8_general_ci

The language info isn't written in the database.

So, now I am looking for where it is written to solve my browser codification problem, I will put in on the forum any other thing I will discover.

The language plugin translation are written in the joomla website tree.

component\com_profiler\plugin\language\spanish
component\com_profiler\plugin\language\brazilianportuguese

I am comparing two utf-8 spanish cb plugins.

All the files are written in brazilianporguguese were in utf-8 no BOM, but spanish.php was in ANSI. I fix that but I am still receiving the message

"Acceso directo a este lugar no esta permitido"

that points to this line in spanish.php
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'El acceso directo a este lugar no está permitido' );

I will post any further thing I am finding out.

Problem solved !
Problem solved !

I have to do 3 things.

1.- Change the text format of spanish.php to utf-8 no BOM.
2.- Verify it ends with ?>
3.- Change to a better validation of the code at the beginning (optional) for security reasons.
VALID_CB, JEXEC & VALID_MOS validation

Now I will work in another part of my project.

What I would like to know is how to findout when new releases appear, ohw to find out new tags I will need.
