[SOLVED] getting help here so like pulling teeth?

13 years 10 months ago #135335 by dewinky
i am new to this joomla experience and i am liking the journey. What i find so really sad is the responses ppl get, when asking otherwise simple questions.

its almost like, "Hey i have a cut, how can i fix this?"

and the canned answer u usually get is; Here is a medical school, "go learn to be a doctor the answer is somewhere else"

I take it for granted that questions will be asked many times over again. Not all the time the solution needs to be go learn CSS, when in truth, all it needs to be; Go edit template_css.css or file this and look for line that says xyz and replace it with blah blah blah...Then u can add, it would be easier if you learn CSS, so you would understand what these changes mean.

Its not like we never paid for the template in the first place.

Thanks for hearing my ramblings..

Not sure what the issue is? I've reviewed your previous posts and appeared to be answered to satisfaction.

when in truth, all it needs to be; Go edit template_css.css or file this and look for line that says xyz and replace it with blah blah blah

Why would we do this? We developed the platform, it's not our responsibility to develop YOUR site. We certainly will try to assist the best we can with developing your site, but only when time permits.

We do not see it responsible and respectful to our members and community to shy away from valuable development time to help a user customize their own site. If such was the case we wouldn't have CB 1.2.2 or CBSubs 1.0.3 available not would subsequent releases be provided in a timely fashion.

It is unfortunate we can not help some users to a higher degree, but it is felt that customizing and things of the sort is not left to the developers, but to the site owner. If not capable of doing such development perhaps hiring a specialist is necessary for you. I'm sorry, but we simply have to prioritize.

When developing a site you should ALWAYS be going in with some degree of web development knowledge. I've met many who didn't understand the very basics of HTML, which is clearly not acceptable even when using a CMS such as Joomla.

Please do not take this as we do not help, we certainly help with any true issue and any even slightly suspected bug whether subscriber or not. What I am referring to is cosmetics, things that aren't a bug or aren't necessary.

Thank you for replying so promptly..post was not for you or anyone to help me develop my site. I was only asking for your expert assistance as to where to look. Seeing that you are more familiar with joomla and the mycommunity template than I will be. i am sure at some point you started out as novice and over time built up your skill set and during that time u too asked someone with more knowledge as to where to look at one point or another.

Please dont make the mistake of thinking i am asking you or anyone to help me develop my site, i am asking where to find the screws to it.

Oh my issue is that after trolling the forum to find an answer to my issue. I read the responses, and asked myself, why bother to ask if i am going to be sent to learn CSS when i can have the problem fixed in a matter of minutes of an answer...sending someone to learn CSS will take week(s) if not months.

I was just trying to find out which file do i edit to change the background color of the mycommunity template, as it does not seem to be the template_css.css file.

Fair enough, we certainly don't want to give such impression.

It generally depends on how the user words their request and determines how they'd receive a response. Those more demanding or those that feel "entitled" we tend to be less responsive too as well lets face it it's degrading and rude.

Your post seams to voice a valid concern and apologize you were not able to find the assistance you need, so lets address your issue. ;)

I was just trying to find out which file do i edit to change the background color of the mycommunity template, as it does not seem to be the template_css.css file.

Once of the great features about MyCommunity and Coolness templates is if you're using Joomla 1.5.x you do not have to make a single CSS adjustment to change the color. It is done dynamically. Please see the parameter Background Color at Joomla Backend > Extensions > Template Manager > mycommunity. From here you can even customize the template further then just background color quite easily. Please let me know if you need instructions for Joomla 1.0.x installations.
