Question about Ioncube

Question about Ioncube was created by sntit
I'm trying to understand why Ioncube is used. From what I gather, it doesn't encrypt any information of the actual clients information ie their passwords, payments, etc but rather is used to keep people from duplicating the software CBSubs. Is this correct?

CBSubs is encrypted also to protect against hacking and facilitate PCI compliance.
