Your right. Let me then ask for some insight into the cause, so that we can better determine the solution.
One theory that I have is that tables were left open before the virtual host was moved from one machine to another. Although the machines are identical, the open tables may have problems now, on a new instance of MySQL.
I have tried to FLUSH the tables, only to find that I do not have RELOAD privileges on the database. SO I have asked my hosting provider to do a FLUSH, and to up the PHP memory limit. I will let you know what happens.
