actually profile pictures must be under the max size specified into the admin area. If an user exceed that size when trying to upload a picture he will got an error message.
Because my community isn't based on skilled IT people, I got some suggests from them about profile pictures management.

1. pictures auto-resizer
An auto-resizer utility that strength pics to the right size during pictures upload by user.

2. User profile picture size
In the Joomla templates usually it's not easy to publish wide images, because left and right modules.
Peoples love to publish huge pics. Then, pictures could be taken with big size (eg. 1200x800) and then published in the user profile page reduced to a medium-size-thumbnail (eg. 300x200).

What do you think about?

I think this is really good idea. I am with you. I would try to program something like that, but I have no expirence with the PHP graphic libaries.

I either not understand you or.. you and caspar (hey there caspar, long time no see!) are missing a huge feature already available in CB!

Use imagemagic, or gd2..so make sure you have a host with one of these server-side utilities and CB will do what you want using those famous image libraries.

Oh dear Viames its not so difficult as you might think..

As soon as you set Imagemagic in the configuration settings of CB you get what you want. thats all that is needed.. assuming you actualy have a host with imagemagic (or gd2) installed..

1) So Backend-CB-Config-Images-> set imagemagic or gd2 whatever you have..

2) Set your desired image width of your thumb and big one.

3) upload a bigger picture than set dimensions and watch the magic happen
