PHP error on profile pic upload SOLVED !!

13 years 2 months ago - 13 years 2 months ago #152278 by bajadudes
new site migrated to a dedicated server

All the old profile pics display perfectly.

If I try to upload a new profile pic I get the following error:

Error: PHP running on your server does not support GD graphics library version 2.x, please install GD version 2.x or switch to another images library in Community Builder Configuration.

in addition in CB configuration manager under the images Tab there is this:

ImageMagick Not installed
NetPBM Not installed
GD1 library Not installed
GD2 library Not installed

PHP ver 5.2.9
Apache 2.0.63
joomla 1.5.22
CB 1.3.1
Avatars and thumbnails folder is Writeable.
All CB tools report back green.

In CB config manager under images in image software I only have GD2 library as an option.

where is the GD graphics library? how do I update or change it?

Thanks in advance for any help

Do you have complete access to the server's functions or is a host taking care of the basic configuration?
In any case, you need to install a graphic software. If your host provides the basic functions, ask them to install at least one of the graphic engines mentioned above.

Thank you for your response. I do have complete control of the server but am by no means an advanced user. I can do basic stuff. Is it very complicated to do this? Is this something that I can hire a joomlapolis expert from your custom services section?

I will look into it in the mean time but I am deathly afraid of hosing the server.

Basically I need to install GD libraries, imageMagick, and netPMB. is that correct?

I am fairly confident that I will want you guys to do this.

As a minimum you only need one of these graphics engines. Having two of them might be a good idea, too.
There are a lot of how-to's and walkthroughs out there, you just need to pick one which fits your server operating system. Installing these engines is usually pretty straight forward, so it might be a good opportunity to getting into administration :-)

well thanks for the suggestion. looking into this i see that the GD lib is some sort of tarball thing. well that right there stops me in my tracks and reminds me of theold days nightmare of installing joomla and mambo via tarball'd files. I would rather not mess with it

Is installing the GD library and imageMagick something I can contract out to the joomlapolis support team?

Unfortunately we do not undertake such tasks.

Who installed apache/php on your dedicate server to begin with?
Maybe they can help you.
Also, most PHP environments have GD by default - wondering why yours does not.
