Just my two cents... (I just began working with GJ)
During my investigations for other CB plugins and solutions, I came across www.Axxis.gr
Well-known for there Activity stream product... They also do offer other solutions, which might come in handy to "puzon23". I would suggest to try out their demos.

I've added a feature request to allow for creation of fields in GJ to extend category and group customization. At this point it is scheduled for 2.5 and to be implemented after a new template system.
