Default Privacy Settings and Front End User Options

2 years 9 months ago #325040 by AlexRag
I'm seeing something interesting with the ability to select several settings in the back end which isn't possible when a user tries to replicate it if they want to revert to it afterwards.

My understanding is that Private means only the user can "see" whatever the setting is meant to control (eg. Connections, Groups, etc.)

If that is selected, I gather that it negates all the other options like Connections, Connection of Connections, Friends, Family. Which makes sense.

A user trying to select all like the back-default allows, can't. Again, this makes sense.

If this is behaving correctly, does this mean admins, need to be mindful that even though the configuration allows them to select all the items, that it is not possible to have private + all others?

If they do this by accident, what rule actually works knowing that all have been selected?

Also, is it possible for a user to select, Connections AND Friend (for example) or are they limited to deciding between say, "Connection" or Connection Types but not both? I'm seeing Connection Types like "tags" so people can groups users to specific people.

Backend is just a multi-select field. It's not using frontend privacy controls behavior there. So yes you can select combos in backend that otherwise you could not do in frontend. No it won't cause any harm doing this.

Connections and Connections of Connections can be selected together. You cannot select Connections or Connections of Connections and a specific connection type at the same time. Selecting a connection type applies the same connected check as Connections.

Got it. So if admin select, all those settings as default, would that essentially mean the "privacy" one and tag are ignored and Connections + Connections of Connections win?

Connections and Connections of Connections can be selected together. You cannot select Connections or Connections of Connections and a specific connection type at the same time. Selecting a connection type applies the same connected check as Connections.

Great! I am seeing the tags as filtered versions of Connections, so this makes complete sense.

I have to say, the deeper I go into the configuration the more possibilities I am seeing with your Extension. Amazing stuff!

Is it possible to change the order the privacy items appear in the privacy tab (I am using the "simple" feature to groups them all into one tab?
I'd like the "Profile Privacy" to appear first.

Also, is there a way to add a note either above or near the Profile Privacy setting? (UPDATE - I found where to add it)

Simple privacy order is entirely based off the order of the fields as they are displayed in their respective profile edit tabs. So if you want profile privacy at the top move that field to be much earlier in your profile edit display and that should move it to the top.
