Access Level vs CBSubs Field Tabs Protection vs CB Conditional

2 years 10 months ago #325068 by AlexRag
Is it better to set access using the “Access Level” Setting, CB Conditional or CBSubs Field Tabs Protection, if I only want a paid member access to a tab but not a free registered member?

I'm thinking In some cases, it may be simpler to just use ACL to simplify view access based on user group, so the others may be overkill, though I suppose they can also be used together to specific access options.

If I have set a CB Conditional so a tab is only visible to a specific user-group, or or CBSubs Field Tabs Protection to restrict to specific plans but also allow user to control privacy does the Tab Privacy setting supercede thes other setting so they can still hide those tabs to other users?

Depends on what you want to do. Using ACL tends to be easier and can be globally applied throughout the site since ACL is a core Joomla feature. If you're managing usergroups well within your plans then that's a viable option. As for fields and tabs CBSubs Field Tabs Protection has a few features unique to it that you may or may not need.

Once a tab/field is hidden by CB Conditional or CBSubs Field Tabs Protection it cannot be made visible again using CB Privacy. You can combine these 3 to limited degrees though.

So, if the tabs are made visible based on CB Conditional or CBSubs Field Tabs Protection, and the user selects "Private" then they be hidden?

Yes, but plugin order could impact this so ensure CB Privacy is ordered after CB Conditional in CB > Plugin Management.
