Upgrade

Hi everybody. I have a university student community website with about 700 registered member. mambo 4.5.2.3 and cb rc1 among other custom and not custom component and stuff. I wonder if rc2 will be possible to upgrade over an rc1 install, and if yes how secure/safe is this process of upgrading and if you also tested it? (Personally i will set up a tween website with a replication of the db and try first to upgrade there without touchning the production environment)

Cheers

Upgrading from RC1 to RC2 shouldn't be a problem. First you need to backup of course - just to be safe! Then you should write down all your parameterized settings in the CB backend configuration tabs (the various email parameters, etc.) because you will need to reconfigure them into RC2. Next step is to unistall the RC1 component via the backend. Unistalling will not delete your CB tables - this way all your users and fields and tabs will remain. Then you install RC2 and setup all the configuration parameters you wrote down before. Similar process for the Login and Moderation, CBOnline modules.

It has been tested but you never know what may go wrong - so keep a backup!

it would be good, if those which the update of rc1 to rc2 accomplished their experiences would write in here.

Ok i have done it about 100+ times..

I can say it works..

SOMETIMES, only SOMETIMES, a new install bitches and wines about some files left on the FTP drive.

These are typically language files that i wrote there by FTP, instead of edit by ftp. These files are then owned by FTP instead of APACHE, and thus cannot be deleted at uninstall.

Solution: simply login by ftp and manually remove the leftover files.

I have not enountered a real problem on a true CB site, ever.

I haven't seen a plugin for userlist_XTD

However they might function together and not get in eachothers hair.

Make the appropiate backups and go for it :)
