I'm not a coder, but it sounds like this would be an easy fix with a plugin that replaces spaces with underscores in the username? Coders' response welcome. :)

Need additional information. First are you transfering User Names or username field from phpBB. Also, which Joomla version?

Thanks for the response.

I decided to try a different approach and use JFusion to synchronize the user tables from phpbb3 to Joomla. It carried over the usernames, e-mail addresses and basic contact info and populated Joomla for me. Based on Joomla's and CB's user management system, they appear to have all transferred properly.

The problem occurs when synchronized account with a space in the username tries to update their profile in the CB profiler. I lock them out of changing their username by default because if they did, the RokBridge wouldn't synchronize the change from CB through Joomla and into phpbb3. This doesn't seem to stop the validation script from running on submit and throwing an error code though. Even though users can't change their usernames, they still get the error.

It's a minor error at the moment. Yes, I could force everyone with a space to use an underscore or shorten their names but getting that information out to them is a pain and it causes synchronization issues with the phpbb3 forum.

I am going to get rid of the phpbb3 forum system soon so I'm not overly concerned but I was hoping that they could keep their self chosen usernames.

Is there a reason that spaces aren't allowed?

Joomla: 1.5.6 Stable
CB: 1.1
PHPBB3: Current
PHP5.X

It's a Joomla 1.5 issue. I found several posts on their forum concerning this. Apparently some have a security concern regarding the spaces, but I didn't dive into it enough to understand it all. You may want to check into the issues they are having to see if someone can or has proposed a fix for you. ;)

Is this the exact code? If I just knew the code and were to replace it, that would be very helpful! And I am using the newest joomla 1.5.7 and using community builder 1.1, Thanks. Cheers Josh Lewis.

Check on Joomla forums... it's a Joomla issue.
