cb plugin install failure - install file not found

cb plugin install failure - install file not found was created by bartICT
I get this trying to install any CB plugin from the CB plugin manager:
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Installation file not found:
/var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/media/install_49fe247917928/
tried these, among others:
plug_cbautowelcome_1_2_RC3.zip
plug_cbcaptcha_1_2_RC4.zip
plug_cbprofilebook_1_2_RC2.zip
etc.
Permissions are open. XML files are in the folders. When I manually ftp the folders to plugin/user in the admin comprofiler plugin and comprofiler plugin folder, they don't show up in the CB plugin manager.
Can you tell me, maybe, just where these files should go? I had similar install problems with CB 1.2 stable install.

#1. You're posting in the CB 1.1 area.
#2. You're trying to install an obsolete RC version when the stable exists without all the bugs in RC3.
#3. Which PHP version are you using?
