i wanted to create a new field in the field manager. when i click the button "new" then i get an error 500 message. is it a problem of cb or my server?

What PHP ver are you using?

php 4. must i use php 5?

I ran into that on my host w PHP 4.4.8, but they luckly have the option to add a line to my .htaccess to use PHP 5.2.6 . It worked for me w PHP 5. I thought it may have just been my particular setup that it didnt work on PHP 4.

Do you have access to the error logs for apache and php? If so could you check them after making the error happen? My host doesnt provide them.

my hoster is 1&1. i wrote a htaccess. file with following discriptions:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

that is the way, which 1&1 says to use php5. but it doesn´t work.

I have 1&1 as well.. Make sure you have it named as " .htaccess " the period needs to be in front. take the htaccess.txt file from joomla folder and just rename it right there as .htaccess and edit that file and at the very bottom add like you have mentioned above:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

I didnt need the second one my self. only the one i pasted. Give that a shot and let me know if it works for you.
