I am using 2.2 now and have the same issue.
At the very top to the right-hand column with the settings, just above the version number, I see:
Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of array_unshift(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file in C:\wamp\www\CB\administrator\components\com_comprofiler\library\cb\cb.session.php on line 41
And further done in the settings, I see the broken CAPTCHA image next to the little speaker icon ("image with security code embedded in it").
PS...read Nant's response, so will tell you my setup:
Joomla 1.5.3
PHP 5.2.5
localhost install on XP w/ WAMP
PSS...is that Beat doing the phonetic alphabet? Very nice.
I haven't hear people use it since my military days...
