Cause determined to be upgrade of MYSQL.

Please keep note when upgrading your MYSQL export your database and import into your new version after upgrading. Otherwise your database will become corrupt.

When running localhost servers be sure to obtain a reliable software package. Suggested package is XAMPP.

hmmm, looking back on all fidoboy posts, nowhere was it mentioned that an MYSQL upgrade was performed :(

@ krileon: thank you for helping out - as painful as it was, it really helps to verify that CB 1.2 RC4 is in good shape and at least this problem was due to user intervention ....
