Maybe your files were not written correctly?

Maybe a template javascript error?

Maybe a 3rd party component/module/plugin javascript error? Try to disable all 3rd party cb plugins.

PHP is 5.2.6

This Javascript error is in both Firefox and IE.

Safe mode is off on both the main site and localhost.

Ndee your were spot on with the template thing I was using the minted admin template from JoomlaWorks.
I switched back to the default one and all the buttons are working.

See the obvious things are usually the correct ones.

I live and learn and hang my head in shame.
