If you are getting 404 errors check to make sure that search engine friendly link generation is not selected. That turned out to be my issue, I could not find the answer out there so hopefully this will help someone in need!

Thank you soooo much. This fixed the issue I had.

I started with a fresh install of Joomla 1.5.9 and CB 1.2 stable. I followed the simplified install in the read me and also the 181 page install doc and could not get a user to login. I wiped the install and tried again with several tips that I found in the forums but nothing helped. I kept getting 404 - Component not found errors.

after reading this post I am now able to login and view profiles and do what a registered user should be able to do.

Beat's fix doesn't break SEO links...

are you disabling SEO instead of deleting the menu item and recreating it as Beat's suggesting?
