It's an SQL error. I tried to hack past it but then I see "You are not authorized to view this page!".

Removing security checks results in blank screen, so it's not that straight forward. Actually it won't even save the configs in my case (or won't read, I don't know).

Looking for some other solution... I managed to hack together too many other components to abandon ship for a search.

We have addressed this issue:

CB 1.2 RC 2 has built in multi-criteria search and works native on joomla 1.5.
