Can I use Last Name in a List filter query?

I run an alumni community site. Each person can list people they are looking for in their profile and a "Have You Seen" list is generated.

I would also like to do a "People Who Might be Looking for You" list. I would like the filter query on the list to search the last name of the Currently Logged In user in the field that holds "Alumni I am Looking For"
