Hi Beat,
CB Contacts displays for now the Joomla/Mambo info, but if you are logged in, the title is a link to CB profile.

This has been said in the announcement, and other releases will follow.
I did not get the second part.
That said, linking to the CB profile is quite straight forward and should be a simple code change.
That sounds cool. But a little more info on that would be great. I looked at the 3 php files under com_cbcontact but was not able to figure from what I could see with Firebug Extension in the browser and at the PHP code. I tried searching for the html that appeared for the contact list in the files under components folder, but did not find it. So I request you to provide some more guidance here.

Will this component allow me to create custom landing pages that display upon successful submission of a contact form? Will it at least let me put in more text than the short line currently allowed by the default _THANK_MESSAGE text?

The language string can be any length, and can include html, so you aren't limited.

You need to check this capability in your SEF component. Maybe you can edit the links. Original 404sef allowed it, don't know about sh404SEF.

ok I've explained time and again that I'm a newbie to all this web stuff. So I'm lost AGAIN! the readme in the zipped file said these steps:
Installation Steps
------------------
1. Install com_cbcontact.zip as a Joomla/Mambo component
2. Create a public menu item pointing to this newly installed component
3. Unpublish previously existing Contact menu item
#1 is simple enough. #2 doesn't say where the existing menu is nor where to replace it.
(if you think it's simple in my brain you're being misled)

It's done using Joomla/Mambo menu manager. http://help.joomla.org
