Thanks for the update.
Will CB 1.2 support avatar/picture upload during registration?

Cheers, Kampp

Clear question, short answer: Yes and it has a little of web 2.0 interaction style, using the awesome jQuery library (but it works with javascript off too, just a little less pretty)

In addition this is also available in normal profile edit in front-end and backend, with avatar approval/moderation actions also available in backend.

Short update for today, Saturday:

We've unfortunately spent most of our Saturday to solve satisfactorly a javascript libraries conflict, between the marvelous jQuery library which is used in non-conflict mode in CB, and available with many installed jQuery plugins to CB plugins with a light jQuery API in CB, and the conflicting mootools javascript library used by some template designers.

This bug was found on a single joomla version with a single template by a very active and helpful CB tester (dping28, thank you ).

We ran into this issues, because CB 1.2 tries to apply latest findings about perceived page load speed for user profiles, so there was an interference which didn't apply in other cases, which was easy to fix, once diagnostic was done.

This very frustrating bug took us over 5 hours to figure out and 2 hours to find a satisfactory solution today, instead of the half hour that we had scheduled for this (!), removing time from other bugs fixes, which still need to be done.

But now that one is solved properly.

Good news is that during that time only a few new bugs got reported by CB testteam, and current open bugs count (those to be fixed for RC) is of 9, of which only one will require quite some hours to fix. Let's hope we don't have more bad surprises this Sunday, which is mostly scheduled for bugs fixes (apart from having enough sleep this night).

As result, our estimated time of arrival is still at least 2 days...

Again, thanks for your support, understanding, patience and documentation subscriptions !

Hi Beat,

IMO jQuery would have been the better solution for J! 1.5 instead of mootools which is shipped with J!1.5 per default. I started to play around with jQuery but droped it because of mootools conflicts. They apeared although I used the non-conflict mode of jQuery. I now do everything with mootools instead of jQuery because it is shipped out of the box.

Are you sure that the use of both js frameworks will not bring up many more hard to figure out bugs? Time will tell but maybe it will end in needless bugsquashing because of incompatibilities between both.

Greets,
ndee

With CB we are encapsulating jQuery, isolating its use from any other library, so that there are no interferences. To achieve this, we use javascript closures and CB API. You may want to check the jquery noConflict() documentation wiki page on jQuery website, I added a note paragraph to it, which may explain why you too had problems at first trying

Hi Beat,

great! I'm pretty sure that your note would solve the issues I had with jQuery and mootools. (I'm pretty sure that I included files of all frameworks first and then called noConflict(); ) Thank you very much for the info.

maybe OT:
The other thing which is left although jQuery is working properly now - J! ships with mootools and this framework will most likely be used in many extensions - because it is available anyway. Therefore chances that jQuery and mootools gets loaded will be very high. Two frameworks which do more or less the same. I don't know if loading time or performance will suffer but I read a lot of discussions between js-frameworks and performance - loading time and file sizes. Now we will have two of them on one site? Does this make sense?

Don't get me wrong I think jQuery is better than mootools but all discussions about performance and loading time between both will be senseless if we load both. Beside that, webmasters will have to learn mootools and jQuery syntax

Ok... stupid question alert... how do you know if you did in fact purchase the manual for "2007". Call me disorganized, but I have a lot going on and I think I did this but I'm not sure how to be sure I did.
