include external table field in registration form

I am building a website for a local Church athletic club. I have created a table that holds team information ( jos_teams ) and I would like to list the team_name field in a drop down box in the registration form. As the teams can come, go and change during the season, I am looking to dynamically build the list from the database as opposed to hard coding it into the CB custom fields. Additionally I would like to be able to display the team_name and team_crest fields on a tab in the user profile, with the option for the user or admin to be able to change the team_name.

Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.
