[SOLVED] table reaches maximum database

norfolkandway,
You should NOT convert all varchar(255) to text. Only CB field types which are optional.

Specially, do not touch Joomla database, and not CB-system fields (e.g. first name, avatar and so on), as doing so you could experiment severe degradation of performance or function.

Just me not reading the guide properly

just go into your jos_comprofiler's structure, find all of the fields that do not need to be 256 characters long (like zip fields, phone, etc) and adjust them accordingly. For state fields that only need 2 characters, you will save a ton of space by changing them all from 256 to just 2. Edit as many as you can and you will have a lot more room (but make sure you have max size set to 2 in the field manager as well). I'm guessing that if you use the Tools option, it may change everything back to 256 though (?)

RESURRECTION

I have been dealing with this for a while and I applied the changes and that they did indeed work on the first site I was having issue with.

but can you guys explain to me any adverse effects of this mod?

I am creating a private real estate property listing site using CB, for a group of people who require each property to have its own lengthy detailed profile.

each listing has about 8 tabs
and a total of 65-72 user definable fields.

some are as easy as radio button (yes/no)

but some require a short paragraph to be written about the aspect of the property.

and others are drop downs

I need the basic fields for the user definable data and then the fields for the "behind the scenes display"
delimiters, cb required fields, etc etc.

so I can see my need for fields exceeding 125 total fields.

when you say change from 255 characters to 100 characters. or change to sql:text

Does this mean the amount of characters the fields can hold?
or does this mean the amount of characters the fields title or name can be?

I have set my settings using Krileons suggestions on page 3 of this topic,

but I am curious to know if this is the optimal setting.

none of my drop downs will exceed 25 characters for each choice
same thing goes for my radio buttons.

can somebody school me on this?

one more question:

for example I have the need for a field that reads

"How Many entry ways are there?"

the selectable choices would be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7

What would be the proper field type to use?

Should I use a drop down single select for this
or should I use a text box that they can fill in?
I have many situations like this when simple generic answers are required.

Which would use "less" space thus allowing me to have more of these fields?
