too many links was created by JelleJ
Hello guys,

We have come to a point where our filesystem does not allow any more directories in the plug_profilegallery folder. Do any of you have had this too? And if so, how do you suggest to solve it?

The message users get when trying to upload their first picture to their gallery: Gallery repository could not be created! Please notify system admin!

Would it be hard to extend this script and make a folder structure like this work:
../plug_profilegallery/1/1 - ../plug_profilegallery/1/9999
../plug_profilegallery/2/10000 - ../plug_profilegallery/2/19999
../plug_profilegallery/3/20000 - ../plug_profilegallery/3/29999
... etc ...

../plug_profilegallery/3/20000 = 3 being the subfolder of plug_profilegallery and 20000 being the user ID

Well, first of all congratulations of having reached 32'767 users with pictures in their album.

As you correctly pointed that out, 32k files in a folder is a known limitation of the EXT3 filesystem, which is the most used on older Linux releases. Newever Linux releases do use EXT4, which has a higher limit, well, 64k.

While we look into this issue (as 64k won't be enough too), maybe your hoster can convert your server partition to EXT4 (after backup) ?

Hey Beat,

Thanks for the reply. And thank you. Also, thank you for such an amazing product.

We have asked our service provider for a solution, and migration to ext4. Let's see what they come up with.

If you need any help finding a solution, I am willing to help out. Just let me know if you need something :)
