[SOLVED] Did I corrupt the user tables? 1 year, 5 months ago #141139

I upgraded a site from 1.2.1 to 1.2.3 today. Now certain operations involving the user tables are really slow.

Deleting users from the backend User Manager takes forever (but does not quite time out). And registration at the front end takes too long, times out, and drops the SQL connection (displaying the dreaded "Error loading Modules:MySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT id, title, module, position, content, showtitle, control, params FROM..." error.

I tried reinstalling again and running through all of the database checks in the Tools area. But the problem persists.

Is there a chance that I corrupted the table during the upgrade? Or is there something else going on?

Please help. Thanks!

EDIT: Another piece of info that is likely relevant is that the problem during registration appears to occur during the user enable step. If we have email confirmation turned on, then the initial disabled user account is created instantly and the verification email is sent immediately with no problems. The error only occurs when clicking the confirmation link, thus enabling the account. If email confirmation is turned off, then the error occurs as soon as the user submits the registration form.

There is another similar problem in the 1.2 forum that ended up being caused by a security plugin. I've tried disabling the Bad Behavior plugin, but it made no difference.

I just figured it out. The problem is with the Constant Contact CB plugin.

I got to thinking abut what sorts of operations might require a call back or an interaction with a remote source and realized that we are using the CC plugin. Turned off the plugin and the problem went away.

The other interesting thing is that we had a real user register today who did not experience the problem. But every time that I test, I get the error. So I'm wondering if the problem is that I am using an email address that is already in the CC database? Maybe I need to log into CC separately and purge the records from my previous tests.
